The Year 6 class value is Our Community
Friday 22nd November
Good afternoon everyone,
We have had a very busy week in Y6. In English, we have been learning how to use modal verbs and fronted adverbials in our discussion writing. We know that we need to be accurate with our punctuation to make sure that the reader reads our writing the way it is intended.
In maths, we have been learning how to order and compare fractions with different denominators. This has been quite tricky, but we are really starting to get the hang of it.
In Science, we carried out a ‘bird beak’ investigation where we explored how birds’ beaks have adapted to suit their environment. It was so impressive to see our children explain how living things adapt over time through slight variations and mutations of cells. Well done to everyone.
In geography, we have been learning about the counties of the UK, using maps to locate them and to explain their location using the correct vocabulary. Next week, we will be focusing on human and physical features of different parts of the UK.
It has also been lovely to see our children reading more at home and practising spellings. It really does make a huge difference to writing and the progress of our children.
Well that’s all for now. We hope you have a great weekend.

Good afternoon,
We have had a great week here in Year 6.
In English this week, we have been learning how to use appropriate language in a live debate. We talked about whether zoos should be abolished, using arguments for and against. Our children were excellent at this and really showcased their fantastic oracy skills.
In maths, we have been learning how to simply factions and order fractions on a number line. This has been a tricky topic, but we are really starting to get the hang of it.
In science, we have continued to explore adaptation which has been very interesting. Next week, we will be learning about Darwin’s finches and we will be carrying out an experiment, exploring different bird beaks.
We hope you have a great weekend and we will see you next week.

Hi Everyone!
We hope that you have had as good a week as us here in Year 6.
In maths, we begun our multiplication and division unit. We learnt how to multiply 3 and 4 digit numbers by 2 digits. We found it tricky at first to remember all of the steps, but we're really starting to get the hang of it.
In English, we wrote our newspaper reports based on the discovery of Anne Frank's diary and secret annexe. We had so much fun writing this and we are very good journalists! Well done to all of our learners for trying so hard this week.
Also this week, we started our Mayan presentations- we have already made an excellent start and we will be presenting them next week, using the oracy that we have been practising.
Well that's all for now. We hope you have a great weekend.

Good afternoon Everyone,
First of all, we’d like to say thank you to everyone who came to our assembly this week. We all tried very hard to project our voices and we put 100% into the performance.
In maths this week, we have been learning how to add and subtract large numbers mentally, using our knowledge of place value. This was tricky at first, but now most of us have mastered this.
In English, we have been learning how to punctuate direct speech accurately, ready for our newspaper reports next week. We also examined to features and language of these reports, focusing on the journalistic style. Next week, we will be planning and writing about the discovery of Anne Frank’s annex.
In history, we continued to learn all about Mayan culture, focusing on religion. Everyone had such a mature attitude to their learning and we had some excellent discussion. Well done to all of our children for trying so hard to use their sentence stems.
Well, that's all for now. We hope you have a fabulous weekend.

Good afternoon Everyone,
Year 6 have had a great week this week. We have been learning more about the story of Anne Frank and exploring how to integrate dialogue into writing to convey character. we will continue to do this next week and create some extended writing.
In maths, we continued to work on place value, looking at some quite difficult problems. Well done to everyone for showing such resilience.
In Art, we explored how mark- making can be turned into drawing and how different textures can be created. Next time, we will be 'scaling up' drawings to create sculptures.
All of our children really enjoyed the transition day at Golborne High- they were excellent representatives of our school and we are proud of each and every one of them.
We hope you have a great weekend and we will see you next week.

Good afternoon Everyone,
We have had another great week here in Y6. In maths, we have continued to work on place value and have begun using our knowledge to solve some quite tricky word problems. Well done to all of our children for being resilient learners.
In English, we have been learning how to use contractions and brackets in our informal writing. We are really enjoying learning about Anne Frank and her story and we have created some excellent pieces of writing this week.
In history, we learned all about how the ancient Maya lived, focusing on hierarchy. We used lots of artists’ impressions to form conclusions about the different people and their jobs.
Today, we had the chance to write creatively based on a short film called ‘Flight’. We really enjoyed this as we got to show our different sentence types and fabulous vocabulary.
I also want to say how proud I am of Year 6- they did an outstanding job, helping reception at lunchtime.
Just a quick reminder- next Friday, we are going to Golborne High School for the day. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.
Well that’s all for now. We hope you have a great weekend.
